Full steam ahead
It seems I am now entering into the busiest period of time since I set up Atlas Sailing at the end of 2012 and we’ve only just seen off February. I seem to be getting regular enquiries which invariably results in bookings. The voyage around the Saronic Gulf from Athens later this month could quite easily have been sold twice over and after the monthly email shot I sent out I received the quickest ever booking for a full boat. I sent the email out at 2pm with details of the activities for March in particular a short Mother’s Day cruise. At 2.03pm I received an email to book the full boat for the Mother’s Day trip. How good is that?
In addition to the bookings & enquiries I am keeping myself busy attending various events some of which they actually allow Sailorboy to do give presentations about the business and I’m quite happy in how these presentations are received. People seem to be quite complimentary about them even though they are delivered in a somewhat unusual and unorthodox way.
I did one for the Shout Network group in Lancaster on Friday and I have two more coming up next week. The first one being on Tuesday the 4th March for the Central Lancashire Business Club at the Leyland Hotel which will start at 8pm and will be longer than average (45 minutes). The second one of the week will be for the WyreFyldeHour Tweetup to be held at The Wyrebank in Garstang. The Tweetup is a very good event as you get to meet people you have previously been communicating with for weeks and actually feel you know already but have yet to have the pleasure of meeting.
I’ve also got some very interesting meetings with other businesses this week and the ‘always welcome’ First Friday event hosted by Ma2 Accountants at The Lemon Tree in Poulton.
In an effort to continually update things I am working on uploading the full year’s sailing trips as well as the complete tide times/starting times for each day. I will be posting the details of the next 7 day cruises. Due to the popularity of the Athens voyage I will be offering more of these so please keep an eye on the website if you are looking for one of these.
So as you can see we have busy times ahead. Is this down to luck or hard work? I’ve always been a believer in just getting stuck in. Business planning and marketing strategies etc do of course have their place but none of these can be substituted for the fact that to achieve something you first have to get off your arse and start doing it. Any of you who have the ‘pleasure’ of knowing me, know that I play numerous musical instruments, speak fluent german and have one or two other ‘talents’. I don’t mention this to be bigheaded but just to emphasise the point that if you have the will and the determination to do something you WILL do it regardless of the obstacles thrown at us.
I will therefore end this blog with that little gem of advice. If you want to do or achieve something:
GET OFF YOUR ARSE AND START !
Kind regards Sailorboy
Ps I’m also available for after dinner speaking, wedding speeches, motivational talks, kid’s parties and Bar Mitzvahs
