Other Activities
It’s not just about sailing and lounging around. For the more energetic, at certain locations we can arrange cycling and scuba diving. There’s obviously a plethora of swimming available and there are masks and snorkels on board that guests are welcome to borrow.
CYCLING
This is available at various locations but probably the best ones are either Angistri or Poros. Out of the two locations Angistri is probably the more challenging. The whole route is around 5-6 miles but is quite hilly. The place cycled to is called Aponissos but is well worth the effort and there is nothing more refreshing than a cold drink and ice cream sat down taking in the view while readying yourself for the return leg.
You do have the easier option of just cycling up and down the beachfront to the town of Skala.
Cycling in Poros offer more options but the most popular route is a partial circumnavigation to visit the various beaches at Love Bay and Russian Bay interspersed of course with regular pit stops at the many tavernas that are passed along the way.
Cycle hire can also be arranged from our base at Lavrio and by far the most popular is a ride to Cape Sounio which is home to the majestic Temple of Poseidon. This route can be quite challenging for a novice and the distance overall is around 18 miles.
SCUBA DIVING
This is available when we visit Epidavros. We partner up with a local Dive Company and they are fully qualified and possess all the necessary equipment for safe and enjoyable diving.
Diving is a great way to get away from all and the troubles in the world. As soon as you descend into the waters you hear nothing but your own breathing under water. No talking, no phones ringing, all communication goes via hand signals. When you’re below the surface you completely forget about what’s happening on land, and what keeps you busy. For that hour you are under the water it’s just you and your thoughts (and the Instructor).
Snorkelling is a great way to have a glimpse of what’s going on under water. Though not being able to breath underwater requires you to come back to the surface every time to gasp for air. This limits you, as you cannot stay underwater for too long and so you can’t go too deep either. Scuba diving allows you to move freely underwater and makes you feel you are part of the marine life.
Another great thing is that diving is closest thing to flying. Hardly having to deal with gravity makes you feel like you’re weightless and flying into the blue.
